Current Issues

Connected Headphones

We found an issue where if you have "connected" headphones with a microphone, like AirPods, at the time you press "Start" in AutoSnore, it may cause a conflict on the iPhone microphone, stopping the app or crashing. The workaround is to start AutoSnore first, then connect your headphones. We are working on the fix for this now.

Live Activity Tracker Still Running

Most likely linked to above. If the Live Activity Tracker is still running but the AutoSnore session is not, this is because the Live Activity is controlled by the iPhone, not the app. To close it, you can swipe it away to clear from the lock screen on your iPhone. We are working on the fix for this now.

Speaker Volume Changes

If you are using AutoSnore and you play audio on the iPhone, it will redirect to the earpiece speaker (you may notice the volume and quality drop). This is the native behaviour programmed into the iPhone, but we also looking into options to help with this in the next update.

Recent Update (Version 1.3)

Thanks for all the feedback from our customers after the first ever release of AutoSnore! We have listened to all and implemented the most in demand requests and made important fixes in this update.

As always, we will continue to listen and improve AutoSnore, so feedback always welcome. See below for a list of the updates:

Using AirPods

Support has been added so you can now listen to music or podcasts on AirPods after pressing "Start" on AutoSnore. This will disable snore recording while music is playing. AutoSnore will start recording automatically when the "play" stops, you don't have to do anything and can drift off to sleep.

Note: please start the AutoSnore recording before connecting headphones. We are working on a fix to help with this now.

Listening to Music on iPhone

Support has been added so you can now listen to music on your iPhone after pressing "Start" on AutoSnore. This will disable snore recording while music is playing. AutoSnore will start recording automatically when the "play" stops.

Note that the iPhone will try redirect the sound of the music to the earpiece (you will notice it drop in quality and volume). To change back to the main iPhone speaker, open the iPhone control panel (swipe down from top-right corner on the screen), tap the audio output icon and select "Speaker" to change back. This is all controlled by the iPhone and how it handles microphone and speaker priorities.

New Configuration Setting for Snore Detection

Snores have a wide variety of sounds. If you find you are getting too many non-snores or too few actual snores, a new setting in configuration (found in the Options tab) allows you to set to Strict or Wide snore detection.

Strict Detection: set to strict detection to only classify classic snoring sounds and ignore more unusual snoring sounds. Strict detection also increases the base confidence level for the sound model.

Wide Detection: set to wide detection to allow a wider variety of possible snoring sounds.

Support for Shortcuts & Siri

Very popular request to help start and stop snoring with Siri.

Added URIs to start and stop snore tracking.

To start autosnore://start

To stop autosnore://stop

Shortcuts Setup Steps:

You can create a shortcut in the shortcuts app as follows:

  1. Press +

  2. Type "Open URLs" in the search actions

  3. Tap the "URL" text and type the url as autosnore://start

  4. Press the title of the shortcut at the top called "Open URLs" to open some options

  5. Rename to something that Siri will understand. Remember Siri can be fussy. We find "Track My Snoring" works well.

  6. Change the icon if you wish using the same step above

Follow the same steps for to setup the stop shortcut (autosnore://stop). A good name to stop AutoSnore tracking is "Stop Tracking My Snoring".

Note that running a shortcut that wants to use the microphone when iPhone is locked will mean that you need to unlock iPhone. This is enforced from the iPhone for security purposes.

Support for Automation

You can create an automation that will automatically start AutoSnore when you turn on sleep focus mode on your iPhone (another popular request).

To setup:

  1. Press Automation tab in shortcuts app.

  2. Press +

  3. Select Sleep

  4. Select Bedtime Begins

  5. Turn on Run Immediately.

  6. Press Next

  7. Select "Track My Snoring" shortcut.

Note: This works extremely well if you enable sleep focus mode using iPhone. If you enable sleep focus mode using Apple Watch, you will have to unlock iPhone. This is enforced from the iPhone for security purposes.

There is currently no automation for when sleep focus mode is turned off.

These two URIs can be combined with all sort of things either in an automation or in a shortcut. They can also be used in other apps that use app URIs.

Advanced Users: for those who love automations more than most, you can also add AutoSleep lights off in the sleep focus automation. It will only appear in shortcuts once you have used it on iPhone by adding the Siri voice command. Here is the AutoSleep Shortcuts page if needed.

Fix to Missing Stop Button

This was caused by other audio sources running. Should now be fine.

Missing Snurk Data

This will reappear once you complete a new recorded session. Or if you cannot wait, you can tap into the Options tab and into Configure my AutoSnore, once you come out it will rebuild right away.

Crash Fixes

A fix where no snurk data exists and the app was launched from the widget. A fix from those with a large data set getting a crash. A fix to crashes resulting from iPhone on lower memory.

Setting Up AutoSnore

Positioning the iPhone

The ideal location is to place your iPhone on a nightstand or bedside table, on a stable, flat surface near your bed.

Try to have your iPhone within arm's reach (about 30 cm / 1 foot from your head), to let it pick up your snoring sounds clearly. If you sleep on one side of the bed, try to place the iPhone on that same side.

Use a charger

It is highly recommended to have a charger attached. Refer to the Support page for more information on battery use.

Be consistent

Importantly, be consistent with the placement. For reliable data and to track trends in your snoring, try to place your iPhone in the same position each night.

iPhone position is important

Total Privacy

How private are my recordings?

We do not collect, store, or access your personal data or your snore recordings. We do not even send the data to your own iCloud. It all stays on your own device. 100% privacy assured.

Check the Apple privacy label

With all apps on the App Store, please pay attention to the Data Privacy Label assigned from Apple. You can find this on the App Store AutoSnore page.

See below an image from the AutoSnore privacy label from Apple assigned: "Data Not Collected"

Check if your other "free" apps can say the same.

When we say total privacy, we actually mean it at AutoSnore

Recording Snores

Starting the recording

Press the "Start" button in AutoSnore when you are about to go to sleep. This will activate the microphone, as shown by a little orange dot 🟠 at the top of the iPhone.

Put the iPhone on a charger and let the screen turn off automatically.

Tap "Start" at bedtime

While sleeping

AutoSnore does all the work in the background while you sleep. We recommend using "Live Activities" when prompted to allow access, to make easy to know the session has started and to stop in the morning.

Live Activities help remember to stop the recording

Stop the recording

You press the "Stop" button in AutoSnore when you wake. This will turn off the microphone and compile all your data.

You can now listen to any sound bites and review the insights from the night.

Tap "Stop" at wake

What about my partner snoring too?

AutoSnore will pick up all sounds in the room. If you have another snorer in the room, there are a couple key things to do:

  1. Phone placement on the side of the bed is important, as it will be targeting the person it is closer to.

  2. Ensure the volume threshold is set to an appropriate level. The default threshold % will block out the majority of the other persons snores, but you can alter the threshold by going into the Options tab and 'Configure my AutoSnore'.

Lastly, we will reinforce that privacy is critical for AutoSnore. To distinguish different people snoring we would need to collect your data (plus your partner), identify it and store on external servers, this does not align with our 100% total privacy approach.

Can I use family sharing?

Yes! AutoSnore has family sharing enabled, so be sure to share the app with your family members for free. You and your partner may like to both record at night and compare in the morning to see who snores more.... or less.

What about naps?

Naps are not supported in the current version, as the trends for comparing works best night to night, using your main sleep session. But we will listen to customer requests to see if this is a need for nap tracking in future versions.

Listening to Snores

Snores Detected

You can listen to individual sound bites for the recent sleep once you "stop" the session.

You can also listen to historical sounds bites for up to 28 days, depending on the amount of days you have set in configuration.

To access the sound bites for the most recent sleep, tap the "Snores Detected" icon on the Home page. This will take you to the Snore Clouds screen.

Tap "Snores Detected" to open the sound bites

Snore Clouds

All your individual sound bites will appear as white dots on the graph, forming cloud-like images, hence the name, "Snore Clouds". The larger and more dense the cloud, the more snores recorded.

The straight red line on the Snore Clouds graph is set to 50% volume. This indicates any loud snores above the line, or quieter snores below the line.

Scroll down the page and watch your snore clouds drop like rain into sound bites for you to review.

All these dots are individual sound bites

Sound Bites

Each sound bite is a 10 second recording. Tap on any sound bite to listen to the recording.

The little "green arrow icon" on each sound bite lets you perform one of the following actions:

  1. Mark any sound bite as a favourite to your greatest hits, this means the sound bite will stay on your device after 28 days.

  2. Share this sound bite with others. All your data is only ever held on device, but this allows the owner to manually send a sound bite to other trusted contacts if required, such as your doctor.

Turn up the volume and tap the sound bite to play back

Filters

Filters are found at the bottom of the Snore Clouds screen. Use your finger to tap, hold and drag up.

AutoSnore classifies all the sounds it records, such as snoring being the primary. But it will most likely also detect lots of different sounds, such as speaking, breathing or sneezing. Rather than hide these completely, we make these available through the use of filters.

Filters allows you to control the grouping with some quick link tabs, such as "Snoring Top 10" or "All Sounds". Explore the options and notice how the graph and sound bites change with the options.

Filters help organise your sound bites

Snurk Rating

Unique to AutoSnore, "Snurks" is an innovative measure that provides a single score to rate your overall snoring during sleep. Think of it as a snore score, but with a background algorithm looking at all those snores overnight.

Put simply, the higher your Snurk score, the more intense and frequent you snored.

Tap the image to view your snurk ratings over time

While the Snurk Rating is individual to you, we find quieter snoring in the range of 10 - 40 snurks, while very loud snoring may be 100+.

Using Tags

Tags are used as a reflection for any items that you feel impacted your most recent sleep and snoring, such as eating late before bed last night.

Tags give context to the data. Tags can be entered from anytime once you wake up and added to during the day. Better yet, you can setup your own custom tags if required.

Tags can be added from the Home page or from the history graphs screen.

Tags are split into "Factors" and "Remedies".

Factors & Remedies

Snoring can be caused by a number of factors, such as your anatomy, alcohol consumption, a cold or your weight.

There are also many remedies to reduce your snoring, such as lifestyle changes, sleeping position or using different devices such as anti-snoring pillows.

AutoSnore allows you to capture these factors and remedies, tracking their impact over a 28 day period. Should you require a custom tag, enter a new one at the bottom.

Should you require a custom tag, enter a new one at the bottom.

Tag Impacts

Using the history graphs, you will notice filters for factors and remedies that have been used.

Tap on any tag and a new orange line _____ will appear on the graph, showing the impact of that tag compared to your overall average. For example, the image below shows my remedy tag for "Head-Raised" is 34.3% better for my snurk score!

Notice the day dot will turn orange 🟠 if the tag selected was used

Insights

Historical data up to 28 days old can be found in the Insights tab on the home page. This allows you to see trends and access sound bites for previous nights.

Use your finger to tap a historical date on the graph, or hold and drag across the graph. This lets you access the sound bites for that specific date.

Use the Filters tab to control the Insights graph, such as Peak Snore trends.

Tap the graph for historical sounds and statistics.

Note that using "tags" can make a big difference to insights (see Using Tags section above), as it provides additional context to the snoring and sleep sounds.

AutoSleep Integration

For those customers with our AutoSleep app to track their sleep using an Apple Watch, you can now view your key snore metrics in AutoSleep too!

This will appear automatically in AutoSleep, there is nothing you need to do.

AutoSleep will show your snore intensity and snore cloud data. This can be found on the Today tab and Clock tab. Refer to the Snore Intensity page here for all the details.

To ensure privacy, no recorded sound bites are transferred to AutoSleep. It is metrics only.

A great bonus you get with the data sync to AutoSleep, is that the snore metrics can be stored in AutoSleep for longer than 4 weeks, which is the maximum time period in AutoSnore. The snore data once in AutoSleep will be stored the same with all other AutoSleep data types, securely encrypted and backed up in HealthKit.

See your snore data in AutoSleep

Configuration

Found in the Options tab on the home page, "Configure my AutoSnore" allows some important configuration settings.

History

This lets the user decide on the amount of days to store their sound bites. The greater the days, the more storage required.

7 days is the minimum and 28 days is the default and maximum allowed. Any recorded sounds past these days will be automatically deleted, unless the individual sound bite has been made a favourite.

Reducing the days will also delete files at the time of changing, for example, if you update from 28 days to 10 days, it will only keep the recent 10 days.

Note: Each night of snoring recording will use about 50MB storage, equivalent to 10 photos. So if you have around 20,000MB of storage available, this is about 400 nights of snoring, which will easily handle the 28 days maximum limit on most iPhones.

History helps you manage your storage.

Threshold

The threshold % is great for applying a filter to quieter snores, to help you see what is most important.

So if set to 20% threshold, AutoSnore will ignore any snores lower than 20% volume in all the graphs and reporting. The recording still happens, but AutoSnore excludes these recordings to make it easier to view your data.

Feel free to experiment with the threshold, as everyone is different. From our internal testing, we find around the 30% threshold seems to be the sweet spot.

Snoring

Snores have a side variety of sounds. If you find you are getting too many non-snores or too few actual snores, a new setting in configuration allows you to set to Strict or Wide detection.

Strict Detection: set to strict detection to only classify classic snoring sounds and ignore more unusual snoring sounds. Strict detection also increases the base confidence level for the sound model.

Wide Detection: set to wide detection to allow a wider variety of possible snoring sounds.

Battery

This option is a handy notification you can enable that the iPhone should be on a charger when you press "Start" to begin recording. This option lets you turn this notification on or off.
